What appeared on Wednesday afternoon is now officially confirmed: Felix Nmecha has extended his contract with Borussia Dortmund by two years, until 2030. The black and yellows have announced it. The 25-year-old midfielder joins the ranks of BVB’s top earners.
Sports director Lars Ricken explains: « We are very happy to continue our journey with Felix. He absolutely identifies with Borussia Dortmund and is a central part of our team’s strategic planning. His contract extension is a sign of continuity and underlines our belief that we will succeed together in the coming years. »
Sports director Sebastian Kehl added: « After a few injuries at the start of his time here at Dortmund, Felix has become a very important part of our team. With his passing game in space and the opponent, he is extremely good for us in the center and always finds creative solutions even under pressure. He brings incredible quality to the pitch – both for us and for the German national team. We are confident that his development curve will continue to rise in the future. »
Nmecha himself said: « I have had many great experiences with this club and its fans over the past few years and I am very grateful for the club’s trust. I would like to repay that trust by doing my best for Borussia Dortmund. »
Rumors regarding a move to the Premier League have increased in recent weeks. For now, that’s a thing of the past. In recent days, Dortmund officials have continued discussions with the players. Almost a month ago, Nmecha reorganized with the agency The Talent Table. The breakthrough came on Tuesday.
Nmecha as an important pillar of the BVB team
The Hamburg native with English roots has recently earned around €5 million per year, and the signing could earn him a good €8 million gross. With this extension, BVB makes it clear that Nmecha is planned as a central figure for the future. Officials do not believe its development is complete yet. Nmecha is now Germany’s most valuable central midfielder. In international comparison, it is in the top 20.
Nmecha left VfL Wolfsburg for BVB in 2023 for a fee of 30 million euros and was able to increase his market value to 45 million euros this season. In the current season, he has not missed a single match and has only been left out of coach Niko Kovac’s starting lineup five times. In 38 appearances, Nmecha has contributed five goals and three assists.
Recently, there has reportedly been interest in Nmecha, particularly from the Premier League. Especially from the former club Manchester City, where the midfielder was trained for 13 years before joining Wolfsburg in 2021. The English House of Lords is also Nmecha’s dream goal, and he has never hidden it. Manchester United, Chelsea FC and Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with him. But Nmecha doesn’t think the time has come to say goodbye to BVB.
« I’m definitely 100 percent here in Dortmund. I feel comfortable. I’m playing a lot, I’m playing pretty well, I think. So I’m just here at the moment. I’m very grateful to Sebastian Kehl for bringing me here, » Nmecha said after the 2-1 win in Cologne last Saturday. Coach Kovac enthused during a media tour on Monday: « Felix is developing in the right direction. He is our leader in midfield and leads and directs our game. We need him. I am happy that he is developing so well. »
