The American test is approaching
At the end of September, Julian Nagelsmann was presented as the new national coach. Three weeks later, the 36-year-old is absent as the main manager of the German national team for the first time: he celebrates his debut on Saturday (9:00 p.m./RTL) in the test against the United States. As the TM database shows, around half of the DFB coaches started with a victory.
6 victories in 11 matches: this is how the debut of the national coaches took place
Otto Nerz, the first national coach in the history of the DFB, beat the Netherlands 3-2 in 1926. Jupp Derwall did the same in 1978 and with Rudi Völler (2000), Jürgen Klinsmann (2004), Joachim Löw (2006) and Hansi Flick (2021), the last four coaches all began their tenure with a sense of success. Nagelsmann could continue the series during the trip to the United States.
His goal is to win. “This is the most important topic to get in a good mood. In (Site notre bureau spécialisé) it’s always like that, when you win, everything you did before was good, » he said before the game in Hartford. When he was named to the team, he had already stressed: « I hope that, even in this short time, we will see that everyone wants to play for the DFB, that everyone wants to win matches, even here and now. Everyone must be extremely concentrated and undertake the trip to the United States with the necessary pleasure, the necessary desire and, above all, the necessary greed.
Nagelsmann is the eighth national coach for whom a friendly match is on the agenda from the start. Helmut Schön, Klinsmann and Flick started in World Cup qualifying, Erich Ribbeck had to start in European Championship qualifying.
