Borussia Dortmund are in the Champions League final after a 1-0 victory at Paris Saint-Germain. The opponent in the final on June 1 in London is FC Bayern Munich or Real Madrid. This is what BVB players and officials said after the underdog’s victory in Paris. PSG entered the duel with a squad value of 1.02 billion, BVB has 474 million euros.
Marco Reus: “Indescribable, what a week. Back in the final after more than ten years. Hats off, hats off, we must have suffered a lot. But we finally did it. On Wednesday, no one will ask how anymore. It simply says the name Borussia Dortmund. (…) Now you have to get it, otherwise it would be crap.” Reus was on the pitch during the 2-1 final defeat in London against Bayern in 2013. For the BVB legend, this year’s final will be the perfect setting to bid farewell to Borussia – he currently has 426 games after nearly 14 years at BVB.

Sports director Sebastian Kehl would like FC Bayern to be his opponent in the final. “I would like Bayern because I feel like I still have things left to finish. Maybe we can repay the 2013 debt to some extent.” Midfielder Julian Brandt, whose 50th-minute corner gave Mats Hummels a 1-0 lead, said: “I actually don’t care. But I’m also a bit patriotic and I keep my fingers crossed for Bayern.
Coach Edin Terzic: “That’s why we do it. It’s just pure joy and a lot of pride. We grew with every game. (…) There’s always a team that makes it to the quarterfinals or semifinals that you might not have on your radar, and we wanted to be that team this year and the journey has been amazing. In the 2022/23 season, Terzic and his team missed the German championship at the last minute, but this season there is another chance to win a big title. This will be Dortmund’s third final in the premier category after 1997, when they beat Juventus Turin, and 2013.
Marcel Sabitzer: “It’s crazy. I don’t have the right words. The emotions are there, the goosebumps. We had a dream and we made it come true: we are going to London. (…) We expected them to put a lot of pressure before the match. They were very good. We did a lot of dirty work, we worked hard and made it to the finish line. There is something special about this club. Before the season, we had a dream. Everyone called our group the death group. It was a difficult road, but we did it. The fans are so happy. » Last summer, Sabitzer left FC Bayern for BVB for a fee of 19 million euros, which left PSG, Milan and Newcastle behind in the group stage.

Emre Can: “I am very proud to be captain of this team. I’m touched, it’s incredible what we achieved during this Champions League season. We all dream of winning this. There is only one step left, we are in the final. » For Can, this could be the second title in the premier category. In the 2012/13 season he was part of the Bayern squad once en route to triumph, but was not used in the premier class at the age of 19 at the time – he is used this season.
Mats Hummels: “I haven’t scored enough goals in the Champions League in my career anyway. Now is a good time to stock up. (…) No matter who we face, we will face a very strong opponent. But we all believe in it. There is no reason for us not to believe that we can win the final. » Hummels does not yet know what will happen after his contract ends on June 30, 2024.
