Paris Saint-Germain have won the race for Barcelona talent Dro Fernández. The 18-year-old attacking player, who was featured in (Site notre blog d’information)’s talent calendar, joins the Champions League winner, where he will sign a contract until 2030. What was announced in recent days has been officially confirmed by PSG. To secure Fernández’s services, PSG will pay a little more than the release clause, as reported by transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano. According to consistent media reports, the sum would amount to around 8 million euros.
Fernández’s clause was previously estimated at €6 million, making him a good transfer deal considering his market value of €10 million. His contract with FC Barcelona was dated until 2027. Barça actually wanted to extend it around his 18th birthday, January 12, but no agreement was reached. Instead, Fernández informed coach Hansi Flick, who highly values the talent, of his desire for a change. “A great player who can still improve,” greeted a delighted Flick this summer. « Dro is very talented. You see everything in training. I love seeing that. »
Fernández had good competition from FC Barcelona
The main reason for this change would be the strong competition for his positions. Fernández had to compete with greats like Frenkie de Jong (28 years old), Pedri (23 years old), Gavi (21 years old), Dani Olmo (27 years old), Fermín López (22 years old), who risks an extension until 2031, Raphinha (29 years old) and Marcus Rashford (28 years old). He made his professional debut in September and has made five appearances since. His best match was the 6-1 victory against Olympiakos Piraeus in the Champions League, where he was able to set up a goal.
Several major European clubs observed Fernández’s situation and tried to sign him, including Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City and Chelsea. PSG apparently won the contract. He would be FC Barcelona’s eighth recruit this millennium; no other club has brought so many professionals to the French capital. These include stars like Lionel Messi, Neymar and Ousmane Dembélé. Additionally, another great talent moved from the Catalans to PSG’s U19s in 2019: Xavi Simons, who was 16 years old at the time.
