While in other leagues the first coaches had to leave, in the Bundesliga this lasted until the seventh day. The defeat against newly promoted side Darmstadt appears to have been one defeat too many for Augsburg, as Enrico Maaßen had to pack his bags.
The club has just announced the dismissal. This had already emerged on Saturday after the match when the sports director did not want to guarantee a job.
With five points from seven matches, Augsburg is close to the relegation zone. Under-23 coach Tobias Strobl will take over as interim coach, the club announced on Monday evening.
“After open discussions with Enrico Maaßen, we came to the conclusion that we needed to make a change in the head coaching position. Unfortunately, despite great commitment and intensive work, Enno and the team failed to break the trend and bring the desired development on the field,” said sports director Marinko Jurendic, explaining the decision.
