Bafétimbi Gomis looks back on his departure from Olympique de Marseille after a prolific season, with 21 goals.
Former OM striker Bafétimbi Gomis recently spoke about the reasons for his departure in 2017 after a season where he established himself as a key player. Despite its 21 goals and 34 matches, OM has other ambitions, shaping up to be a “great attack” for its project.
“A great showcase to relaunch myself”
During his time at OM, Gomis enjoyed his most prolific season, helping to turn the club around in a difficult period. “It was where I flourished the most. Straightening OM and bringing it back to Europe, for me, that’s worth a title,” he said in The Team. However, his Marseille adventure ended when the club decided to opt for a new star striker, as Gomis explained: “We had a different project with the ‘big striker’. A key role and new responsibilities
Gomis also highlights the importance of the responsibilities that have been entrusted, notably the captain’s armband. “In Marseille, it was the launch of the attack, a first in my career.
