BVB brings Thomas Broich from Hertha BSC as Ricken's successor

Borussia Dortmund has presented a successor to Lars Ricken, promoted to sporting director. Thomas Broich will take over as sports director of the BVB youth team on July 1. The 43-year-old former Bundesliga professional has a contract until June 30, 2027. Broich spent the last two and a half years as head of methodology in the youth sector at Hertha BSC, looking after notably uniform forms of play and tactics for the U9 to U19 zone.

“Thomas has a great passion for supporting young talent and has a wealth of experience as a professional in the Bundesliga and abroad. During his stays in Frankfurt and Berlin, he gained valuable knowledge on the training of young players. “In addition, he is known as a television expert and has proven his expertise in this area and brings another side of (Site notre bureau spécialisé),” Ricken said.

Broich, who is on parental leave and will now cut it short, added: “My conversations with Lars Ricken were characterized by great agreement regarding his vision for the future and my ideas. Like me, the BVB Youth Performance Center has the same goal: to constantly develop its own training concept and its own playing idea. I look forward to charting this path with everyone involved.
