Almost four years after his last international appearance for Poland, Jakub Blaszczykowski has returned to the big stage. The Borussia Dortmund club icon received a fitting farewell against Germany.
The golden years of Borussia Dortmund are not only remembered for the titles won between 2011 and 2012. It is also the players and their passion for (Site notre bureau spécialisé) and for Borussia that are firmly in the memory.
Jakub « Kuba » Blaszczykowski is one of those unforgettable players. The right-winger moved from Wisła Krakow to BVB in 2007, worked his way through the heart of the Yellow Wall in 253 appearances and eventually made it into the Polish national team.
After making his debut in March 2006, ‘Kuba’ was used in 108 international appearances and returned to the team more than three years after his last game. Against Germany, the 37-year-old BVB icon said goodbye to the big stage.
The setting could hardly have been more appropriate. At the National Stadium in Warsaw, Fernando Santos named Blaszczykowski for the starting line-up. The substitution came after 16 minutes, « Kuba » said goodbye to his teammates from the field. The standing ovation was more than deserved for a great career.
