USSR 3-0 Czechoslovakia  Euro 60 Semi-finals

Czechoslovakia pressed continuously in this match straight from the start and the Russian goalkeeper, Lev Yashin made successive fine saves. In the midfield for Russia, Netto, Voinov and Ivanov created the Czechs problems and they eventually took total control. Ivanov scored two of the Russians three goals and Russia was cruising, to the credit of Czechoslovakia they battled hard right up to the final whistle, and however, they were still unable to hit the back of the net.

USSR 2-1 Yugoslavia -  Euro 60 Final

This tie attracted nearly 20,000 fans, and Yugoslavia started off the better of the two teams. The Russian goalkeeper, Lev Yashin was the saviour of his country as he combated attack after attack, until the Yugoslav striker, Galic, put Yugoslavia ahead, five minutes prior the interval. The second half was played at a much faster tempo, with the Soviets increasing the pressure; they levelled through Metreveli within five minutes of the second interval. Yugoslavia had no choice but to defend. The score line stayed goal less by full time and the match had to go into extra time. During the extra period, the physical superiority of the Russians began to show. They came near to scoring on two occasions and with seven minutes left on the clock, the Soviets took the lead via Ponedelnik when he plucked a centre from the winger Meshki out of the air and hit the ball into the back of the gaol. Yugoslavia had no energy to search for an equalizer and USSR were the first champions to pick up the Henri Delaunay Cup.

West Germany 3-0 USSR - Euro 72 Final
The final between West Germany and USSR in Brussels was virtually in front of a German Supporting crowd. Gerd Muller once again proved why he was Europe’s leading marksmen of that period. The West German, controlled by Netzer and Beckenbauer in both defense and midfield, did not allow the Russians to settle down and seemed successful to mount their attacks at will. The West Germans broke free of the Russian defense on two occasions in the first 15 minutes, Rudakov helped keep the score line goalless until late in the first half as Muller chested a cross down and slid the ball into the Russian net. The second half saw the Germans step up a few gears and Wimmer, playing brilliantly in the midfield, took a perfect return pass from Heynckes and rifled a shot into the corner of the net. The Germans however were not finished, five minutes later, Muller once again created space for himself to send Rudakov the wrong way for his second goal of the match.
