Michel Platini - France

Platini was honored as European footballer of the year for three consecutive years and won the European Championship in 1984 with France. Through out the tournament, Platini scored nine goals including 2 hat-tricks. He played in three world cups, 1978, 1982 and 1986. Between 1979-1982 he starred for French outfit Saint Etienne, helping them to victory the French league. He moved to Juventus in 1982 and won the Italian Cup, Italian league, ECWC, European super Cup and the European Cup. He moved into management in 1987.

 

Jean Pierre Papin – France
Papin was the French’s most influential player during Euro 92; he scored two goals however they failed to qualify from their group. Papin in fact was arguably the finest player in Europe during the qualifying matches for Euro 92. He was honoured with the title of European Footballer of the year in 1991. He was the top goal scorer in the French league for five years running whilst playing with Marseille. In total he scored 157 goals in 254 matches for Marseille. He also had periods playing for Bayern Munich and AC Milan. He is arguably France’s greatest striker of all time.

Zinedine Zidane - France
His greatest moments in football fell during the World Cup 1998 finals in his home country, France. Despite being sent off in the tie against Saudi Arabia and being suspended from the next two matches, Zidane was a force during the 1998 world cup finals, arguably his greatest ever match of his career was the 3-0 final victory over Brazil. He showed how much of a strong character he was mentally in the final by coming back from a two match suspension and heading the two goals for France in the final that secured them victory in the world cup. Zidane’s outstanding skills and exquisite play awarded him world recognition during that competition and he was arguably the best player in the world cup finals of 1998.
Two years later he was hailed as being the finest player in the world after his dazzling performance in the European Championships of 2000, his brilliance also awarded him a move to Real Madrid which was to be considered to be around the fee of £50 million.
His world cup glory with France in 1998 earned him the titles of ‘European player of the year,’ for that season and ‘FIFA world footballer of the year’ as well. His great play for both club and country in 2000, earned him the honor of ‘FIFA world player of the year,’ for the second occasion. He starred for France in the world cup of 2002; however he along with the entire French national team had a poor tournament. He won the champions league with Real Madrid in 2003, and once again for the third time he was given the title of ‘FIFA world player of the year,’ in 2003.

In 2006 he once again was outstanding for France in the world cup finals as he helped his country reach the world cup final and won the ‘best player of the world cup’ honour.
